Finding a place to stay at Morisset, in the coastal city of Lake Macquarie, NSW can be a challenge. And when there isn’t a lot of choices, sometimes you miss the hidden gems. Don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some great options, but they are limited, and some of the best are not well known at all.
The good news for you is, I live in the area and happen to know the best spots. Lucky you 🙂

And, as a local to the Morisset and Lake Macquarie area, I’ve handpicked the best choices for you so the next time you’re looking to get away for the weekend, visiting for work or planning some other trip, you can hopefully pick the best spots a little easier.
1. SilverWaters Waterfront Accommodation
This location is one of Morisset’s hidden gems and really is beyond words. This studio accommodation is just outside of Morisset at Silverwater. Not to be confused with another Silverwater, these units are perfectly positioned for lake activities and really experiencing what it means to ‘live’ by the lake, including spectacular sunrises.
Silverwater is an outer suburb of Morisset, adjacent to Morisset East and Sunshine. This means you are getting out of the town a little bit, but with that extra 5 minutes drive comes the serenity and seclusion of an idyllic lakeside setting. SilverWaters Waterfront Accommodation has two studio-style apartments located right on the lake. With views over the garden and water, combined with a private beach area, barbecue facilities and free WiFi, it is perfect for a weekend getaway, or a longer work stay.
Both apartments are air-conditioned and have views across Lake Macquarie to Point Wolstoncroft Conservation Park. As long as you have your own transport, the location is one of the best in the Morisset area. SilverWaters Waterfront Accommodation is also one of the quietest places to stay as it is situated away from the road and it is not near any main roads or rail lines.
Each studio apartment sleeps two people, but they are interconnecting, so if you have a larger group, the adjoining hallway can be opened for you.
The Entrance is 44 km from the apartments, while Cardiff is 39 km away. The nearest airport is Newcastle Airport, 81 km from Silver Waters Waterfront Accommodation and 99.2 km to Kingsford Smith.

2. Morisset Serviced Apartments
Located in a new apartment building in Morisset, 44 km from Gosford, Morisset Serviced Apartments provides barbecue facilities, rooms with a flat-screen TV, basic kitchen appliances and a private bathroom with shower, hairdryer and free Wifi. Location is just 71km to the nearest airport, Newcastle.
Being one of the newest options and located right in the heart of Morisset, the limited number of apartments here tend to book out pretty quickly. I haven’t stayed here yet, but unsurprisingly, most guests rate Morisset Serviced Apartments quite highly.

3. The Bay Hotel Motel
Technically, outside of the town of Morisset, The Bay Hotel Motel is in the neighbouring suburb of Bonnells Bay. They combine a modern 3.5-star motel, hotel, lounge, bar, restaurant and bottleshop into one convenient location adjacent to the Bonnells Bay shopping centre. The restaurant is reasonably priced and worth a try with some excellent food choices. Rooms are air-conditioned with a flat-screen TV and there is a playground available for children.
If wine is your thing, you don’t want to miss, The Red Room, a specialised, climate-controlled room where you can purchase from a selection of rare Hunter Valley wines. And if you have your fur babies with you on your holiday vacation, The Bay Motel offers pet-friendly accommodation in beautiful Lake Macquarie too!

4. Lake Macquarie Hotel
Pub accommodation in the centre of Morisset opposite the train station with large, comfortable rooms. Rooms include a kitchenette with sink, fridge, crockery and private parking. Noise levels vary due to proximity to the train line and other adjacent commercial buildings.
The front bar is a must try – it is a nice spot to have your lunch or dinner with generous serving sizes.

5. Airbnb eg The Boathouse
You might have noticed that pricing for accommodation around Morisset is not particularly cheap. If you really need low-cost, your best bet is going to be Airbnb. Over the last 4 years, there have been more and more properties added both in Morisset and in neighbouring suburbs, so you can find just about any style of accommodation from single rooms to private studios to huge houses. Many are on or near the water, and prices do vary significantly. I’ve seen them from $50/night for just a room up to hundreds of dollars per night for large houses.
One great example is: The Boathouse
Located in the nearby suburb of Wangi Wangi, this particular example is getting further away from Morisset, but it’s a great example of what you can find. This is a lakeside house with large open plan living/kitchen/dining room and extensive lake views. Three (3) bedroom with five (5) beds and one (1) bath can accommodate up to seven (7) guests with daily accommodation essentials provided. Free WiFi and free parking is available on the premises. Laptop friendly workspace for business travel and tours.
All in all, this is one of the perfect weekend getaways from シドニー or family holiday by the lake. There are many, many other options though. I’d suggest doing an Airbnb search and use the map view to find options closest to where you need to be in Morisset. There are some really unique and quirky options here and most are great value.
Airbnb price point: As low as $50/night (typically a private room in a shared space – prices start around $70/night for completely private studio style accommodation).
The Boathouse price point: As low as $163/night.
